SANTA CLARA — Although there are not a lot of new faces in the 49ers’ defensive backfield, All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner is impressed with what he has seen this summer.“I love our defensive back group,” Warner said on Tuesday. “I don’t know if I’ve felt as confident about a back-end group in my career as I feel right now.”
Presumptive starting safety Malik Mustapha is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury. Ji’Ayir Brown and Marques Sigle are lining up as the first-team safeties. Brown had an interception of a pass against Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward in a joint practice.
And the cornerbacks have been impressive as a group, too.
Deommodore Lenoir and Renardo Green, returning starters, are looking good in coverage. In addition, veterans Jack Jones and Nate Hobbs are making plays, too.
On Tuesday, first-year cornerback Jakob Robinson came up with an interception against Titans quarterback Will Levis.
